As a blogger it is important to think about your branding and how you want to showcase the real you and what you write about. However, it is also important to refresh your blog’s branding too.
Refreshing your blog’s branding is a great way for you to reflect your brand in a more modern and current way, which shows to your audience that you are connected to your industry and that you know what you are doing. In addition, as well as all of this it helps you maintain relevance in the blogging market. Especially since blogging has definitely increased within the last 5 years, and more and more people are becoming bloggers everyday.
So what is branding?
Every blog is built with a personality and your brand is the way for showing that to other people. Branding has a mix of strategies including visual elements and through your writing too. So it’s not just about the logo on your site, there is a whole lot more to be dealing with!
With branding you have to think about your logo, blogging name, colours on your site, fonts, patterns or images and all of this helps you build your brand. After all first impressions are essential (and not just in a human contact kind of way) and can have a huge impact on your blog. Before people even get to your content they will be judging you on your website design and your branding.
So if you haven’t got it by now then branding is essential! And if you are sitting there thinking you may need to refresh your blog’s branding but are not sure where to start, then here are 5 ways:
1. Refresh your logo
Ok I know I said that it is not all about your logo, but your logo is an important part of your brand. I recently spent some time just looking around my site and thinking about what I could do to switch things up. As I have mentioned the blogging industry is highly competitive now with many talented writers/people, and this makes being unique extremely difficult. Therefore, when you think about refreshing your logo think about making small changes so that your brand is still familiar to your existing audience but there is a new glow.
As you can see above this is my current logo, but I am still playing around and wanting to refresh it even more. I have gone for a really simple approach with just one colour and some sketch like writing and an image of a woman that is supposed to represent me.
Think about top brands and their logos such as google, you know the logo and it is instantly recognisable. I mean you can probably imagine it as you are reading this now. This should be reflected in your own logo. You want it to be recognisable and you want your audience to know it.
Another way to refresh your blog’s branding is through fonts. When it comes to choosing your fonts you want people to be able to read your content, you want the writing to be clear but you might also want your fonts to stand out.
Of course when you are choosing the font you want it completely depends on the theme/look you are going for throughout your blog. For example, if like me you like fancy, simple, stylish but something that stands out then you would want to choose something from the fancy fonts collection so that your fancy/stylish content can be reflected but easily recognisable to your audience.
Fonts play a huge rule on your branding for your blog. You want the words to really draw you in and attract you to the content.
One way to refresh your blog’s branding is through your colour theme. You want to choose colours that reflect you, your personality but also colours that fit your blog and content.
My digital branding colour palette is full of neutrals with a hint of pink tones. As I said I want that simple but stylish theme going on with my blog, something that I try to reflect into my content and brand too. This is similar on my Instagram profile, which is also full of neutral tones (with the odd bright colour here and there).
It is mentioned everywhere but building your colour palette is important when you want to build your online presence. Therefore, take a step back and think about the colour palette currently on your blog because it might be time to give it a little refresh.
4. Brand photography
I think we all know how powerful images and photography are. Photography can express, influence and attract your audience to your blog. Therefore, think about your brand photography when you refresh your blog’s branding.
This is extremely important if your blog offers products or services because people want to be able to see what you offer. Also photography can instantly give that new vibe to your content, and you can have a lot of fun with it! Just remember that you want this to be similar across all your accounts linked to your blog. This just makes your audience trust you more and know what they are looking for.
Brand photography is important if you use social media like Instagram because you can attract a wider audience to your blog through your marketing, and this will positively affect your brand performance. For example, you can do behind the scenes action shots of your services, or behind the scenes of taking images for your blog.
5. Change the theme of your site
When you refresh your blog’s branding you want to consider the small changes. You want to focus on a brand refresh that reflects what your audience want (as well as yourself) but without the huge costs! For example, you could boost your site speed, update images for your products/services (if you offer them), update any features or information, update old posts and of course just simply change the theme of your site.
By doing something as simple as changing the theme of your site this can give a refresh on your branding. Again when you do change your theme you want to think about keeping some of the recognisable elements, but just improving the overall look. Also you want to remember that different themes will have different levels of usability, which you should consider when thinking about changing your theme.
One last thing when considering changing your theme is to ensure that you don’t lose any of your data.
There you have it my top 5 ways to refresh your blog’s branding today! Remember when it comes to giving your brand a refresh always schedule in plenty of time and energy. You always want to bring out the best in your blog, and showcase the wonderful you.
