Most of us have become focused too much on our careers and work life (which is not a bad thing), however it is important to ensure you enjoy your life outside of work too.
What we do outside of our work hours is important in influencing how we are during our work hours. Therefore, the two work together like two best friends, constantly helping one another out. So think about improving your outside work life in order to make your work life better. But also just so you can make the most of your life without feeling like you are just constantly stuck at work all the time. Work is not everything (unless you have a great job you truly enjoy), but making memories and experiencing things is important.
Make effort with family and friends
Obviously depending on where you are in the world this one is a little difficult, but calling/messaging regularly is so important. Not only is it good for our own mental health but for others too. We need to be connecting with those around us now more than ever, so when you do call make sure you are checking up on people. Make sure you are really asking if they are ok, and let people know they can talk. But also make sure you are talking to (especially if you are struggling). Talking is always a good thing.
Since I have begun my new role I make sure to schedule in time every week to FaceTime my old work colleagues just to keep in touch, but also because working from home can be lonely.
Not only this but we always keep in touch with my grandparents because I hate thinking about them not going out a lot this last year.
Something that is important is making sure you make time for exercise! It is great for you to be able to enjoy your life outside of work because otherwise it can feel like work is taking over.
I know I go on and on about exercise but honestly it really does help me a lot in my life. Even more so for me as my new role is working from home and sitting at a laptop all day (and trust me I am not one that enjoys sitting down- I cannot do it), so exercise is important for me to move my body.
Make time for hobbies
If you ensure that either before work or after work you make time for hobbies or doing something you enjoy this will increase your productivity and even give you something to look forward to after work.
For me I love to read, knit, and of course run my blog! I mean I do love my job but having other things that are personal to me are important. Plus sometimes that sparks some creativity in your work life too. I am one of those people that enjoys working on a load of projects all at one time (probably why I do well in project management). It can sometimes feel a bit stressful, but I just know when to step back and take time for myself too.
For me doing a hobby or even finding a new hobby is how to enjoy your life outside of work. Plus it can be anything small or big.
One thing of working a lot of our life is we pretty much are stagnant. We wake up go to work/do our job and then nothing (especially at the moment where a lot of us are working from home).
However, sometimes it is important to be a bit more spontaneous. As soon as your work time is up then just go and do something you would not normally do. This can be how to enjoy your life outside of work. Plus it can be really fun to just do something random (sometimes this is the best way to make memories).
You might need to think about it and get some creativity flowing (of course not much we can do right now, but like I said get creative). Think about ways you can be spontaneous even during this time, and then of course when things are ok in the world again then you can have a lot more ideas.
Volunteer/help the environment
Something else you could do to enjoy your life outside of work is to volunteer or do something for the environment.
Volunteering is a great way for you to give back to your community and for you to open your eyes to issues you might not have thought about before. It also can make you feel really good and you know that you are doing something for a great cause.
Be creative/do something alongside your work
If you have something that you enjoy doing outside of work then this is a great way for you to enjoy your life outside of work.
However, if not then think about what you enjoy doing. Is it that you enjoy being creative (such as painting, drawing, designing etc), do you like making clothes, knitting, sports or maybe you have a business idea that you would like to pursue.
Really think about other things you enjoy and just do them. Now is the perfect time to make the most of your time and enjoy what you want to do in life. This is also a great way to inspire you in many other areas of your life, including your work life. Plus when you finish work you will have something to look forward too and that will spice your life up a bit more (like I said enjoy your life outside of work).
