It doesn’t matter if you are a morning person or night owl, your day will begin at some point and having a good morning routine will help you successfully begin your day on the right note. I truly believe that beginning your day with a morning routine means you are more likely to be more productive, positive and just feel overall better for that day.

Also a morning routine is said to boost happiness, reduce stress levels and get you settled for the day. This makes YOU control the day and not the day controlling you.

Therefore, throughout this post I will be talking about…

How to implement an effective morning routine!

Begin the day doing something significant

I think we have all heard that we shouldn’t go on our phones as soon as we wake up. This is something some days I still decide to go on my phone, but most of the time now I get myself up and make myself do something productive. For example, I will knit for my business, read, do a workout, go for a walk, clean, write or do blogging tasks etc.

Not only does this make me feel better and more productive, but I am actually getting tasks done and out of the way that I would normally leave until later. It’s a great way to manage time and start your day.

Set daily goals

I normally set myself 3 tasks for the day and to focus on but that is flexible meaning I can add/remove as and when needed. This gives you focus and means you are more likely to get it done.

If you have been following me or if you have read any of my posts you might know I love goal-setting and they just motivate me to get through my life.

Create a schedule for the day

Once the goals have been set, create your schedule, when you would love to achieve/get these goals done by etc. I love to use my planners (I have both a blogging one and a personal one), and by using these it gives me a date/time when I can get things done by. I can then create my schedule in these planners and understand what I need to get done throughout the day.

I am currently using the Ultimate yearly blog planner by Jordanne (AF), and it is great to use and will last years to come too.

Read something positive/affirmations

This might not be everyone’s cup of tea but you can cater it to what you enjoy. I basically love to read a couple of positive affirmations for my day/ read something positive. But you could just read a chapter of a book whatever suits you.

By telling myself these positive affirmations this creates a more positive mind-set but also encourages me to just function through my day in a more positive light.

Express gratitude

Now you don’t need to do it as much as me. But I like to practice gratitude in the morning and before bed. It just brings me back to reality and gets me in touch with everything I appreciate in my life.

But I do recommend daily practicing of gratitude because again it creates this more positive mind-set but helps you focus on what is in your life right now, and you learn to appreciate things a lot more.

Get emotional

By this I don’t mean make yourself cry when you wake up. But what I mean is expressing gratitude (as mentioned). But also if you have kids waking them up with a hug, connect with family members during a commute (when you can or if you can at the moment). Identify what makes you feel good and make sure that is implemented in your day.

Just make sure you are having that emotional connection daily and this will help you begin your day well.

Get physical

Take that as you will. However, for me it is important for me to get my body moving before my day starts, this is because at the moment I am working from home so most of the day involves me sitting at a laptop. Therefore, getting my body moving as part of my morning routine is essential for me.

This could be some yoga, going for a walk, doing a workout, running etc. Anything to begin my day! It could even be some gardening! Whatever you love to start your day. But also remember you need to enjoy it, so if you don’t like waking up at 5am and doing a workout then don’t do it. And also remember that you don’t need to workout for hours but a simple effective 20-30 minutes will do.

Warm lemon water

Something I have recently began doing is drinking a hot lemon drink and I have done my research and there are many benefits to it. But I won’t get into that today. It is completely up to you if this is something you want to implement into your life.

Ensure your space is clutter free

When your work space is cluttered your mind is cluttered. Therefore ensure this space is clean for you to feel able to do your work and be more productive.

I honestly hate a cluttered work space, and so in the morning I like to just make sure my space is clutter free and tidy so that I can function during the day.

Overall

Overall ensure you get a decent nights sleep, keep your morning routine simple and a routine that you enjoy beginning your day with. Also you can test drive any routine and find what works for you and do this until you get that morning routine that is effective for your life.

    1. Yeah I agree, and with my new job I have been trying to settle into that before I work out the best routine for my exercise. But I personally love it in the mornings too! Thank you xx

  1. These are great suggestions Gemmaa! I am not a morning person at all and I struggle to get my day started. I have been trying to implement a morning routine unsuccessfully for a while now. I like that you are flexible with your daily goals. I think that might be how I have to approach my morning routine. Instead of a rigid routine, It think I may have to look at one with a little more flexibility. Thanks for sharing these tips! I feel inspired to try a morning routine again!
