May Overview 2020

Anyone else love the fact that this month begins on a Monday? Anyway at the beginning of the month I set myself goals for May. I normally base these on what I have done in the previous month and if I have come across anything new that I wish to achieve.

Reflection is a great way for me to see if I managed to get through my goals which I set, if maybe I need to change anything or if there are goals that are not a priority anymore. Personally I love setting goals because for me it keeps me on track and helps me maintain a routine. Also having goals motivates me more to be productive.

I love having something to work towards. For example, when I am running I love having an event to train towards because this motivates me with my running to get a better time, and to just finish that race. However, I also don’t mind if I don’t manage to achieve my goals because I am only human and sometimes it happens.

Anyway, today I am sharing with you an overview of May, including my thoughts and feelings.

Let’s get into the goals I set for May

Fitness

There were three main goals I set myself for may regarding my fitness.

  1. Run a total of 40 miles

I ran over 40 miles in April so wanted to aim for that again. Not only did I smash my goals again (and trust me it was hard this month in terms of motivation), but I have managed within the last couple of weeks to run further in one go. By this I mean I have managed to run up to 8 miles within one run! Trust me when I say it has been a long time since I have done a long run. I believe the last long run was my half-marathon back in the end of September. Normally I will run between 2-6 miles in a run.

I have some tips if you want to begin running.

2. Continue my 8 am workouts

I promise you I will stop going on about it (maybe) but I began these workouts on Instagram and so my goal was to continue these! Of course I absolutely have smashed this and I am still doing them for now. You can head over to my Instagram if you want to follow my daily progress.

Honestly I am proud of myself and I have found myself doing burpees and all kinds of hard exercises that I had never believed I could do. But YOU CAN DO ANYTHING if you put your mind to it.

3. Do yoga twice a week

My last fitness goal was to get myself back into yoga again. Therefore, I set myself a goal of doing yoga twice a week. I started off well, and then within the last week I neglected it as my body has felt more tired. However, I am not gonna beat myself up about it I always listen to my body and what it needs.

I am happy with getting back into yoga though, because I love it and I think it is a great way to stretch and workout your body.

Reading

I set myself a goal to read three books throughout May to ease myself back into reading again. I think maybe I should have started lower, but I did manage to read two books this month. I am pretty happy with that, and I am trying my best to dedicate a bit of time each day to reading. Hopefully I can continue this!

Blog

The main goal for me with my blog was just to continue learning and developing with my blog. As a result, I honestly think this month has been great for me in terms of my blog. I have got the most views ever this month (like amazing?!), I have learnt maintenance tasks and been getting through them. Also, I have been using Pinterest and trying to grasp that as well. I have also been promoting myself more, and just giving my blog attention.

I am just proud of myself, but also it goes to show when you have time to put into something the rewards are great. I always tell myself hard work pays off. Therefore, one good thing for me to come from this lockdown is having the opportunity for me to work on my blog.

Skills

There were a few skills that I wanted to maintain throughout May.

  1. Continue learning SQL and even begin Python.

I have been continuing my learning of these coding languages. I am pretty proud of myself actually because I am teaching myself. As I am at the end of this month I pretty much know the basics of SQL (which is great for any future jobs) and I am beginning Python.

This is another great thing to come from being in lockdown and I am so grateful for that. I am not a negative person, I always focus on the positives and how to make the best out of any situation. But I am so happy I can have this time to learn things that I want.

2. Continue learning German

I have had such a long relationship with this one. I truly think that I need to live in Germany for me to fully learn this language. However, I have done well to practice for at least 20 minutes a day. But, I think that I need to test myself more and put sentences together more. At the moment I can pick up on certain words but I obviously want to be able to speak in sentences.

Therefore, I think I need to change things up a bit and use other ways to help me practice too.

3. Continue making time for my music

I mentioned in my May goals post that I found my love for playing my guitar and keyboard again. Therefore, I wanted this to stay and make sure that I scheduled time for me to just do something that I love.

Of course I have stuck to this one because it just brings me so much joy and I love playing music. This is something that I hope stays with me even after lockdown.

Self-care

Lastly, I mentioned in my May goals that I wanted to make sure my mental health and well-being is prioritised. Therefore, of course it was essential for me to make sure this happened.

I have been ensuring that I switch off from social media when I need too (at the moment I take Sunday’s off). Also having a self-care evening where I use my skincare favourites to really just pamper myself. And also having a bath with a bath bomb. Of course this one is here to stay, and I am happy that I am finally making sure my health is number one.

Overall thoughts from May

I think overall I have had a pretty positive month. I have managed to stick to most of my goals, and have not had many down days. I think I am finally accepting that if I need to take a break and not be productive then that is ok. But also to keep being the boss lady that I am, work hard and eventually it will show. Also to just remember that it is not the end of the world if I don’t complete my goals.

What did you get up to during May? Did you complete your goals?

  1. You truly conquered those goals! 🙌 And I love how even with the ones you feel you didn’t do as well with like Yoga you listened to your body and will know how to approach it in the future ✨ I really want to get back into learning a language, I was studying Italian but somewhere down the line I got off track but I really enjoyed the feeling when you remember a word or it’s the first thing you think of in your head compared to English sometimes. In May I started Knitting, just the other Saturday and I already have maybe a third of a scarf done 😄 I went at it like a mad woman because it was so relaxing and it’s nice to see immediate results in something 💫 Hope you have a fantastic June! Take care lovely 💕

    1. Thank you! Yes I think that is the best mindset to have because we are not always going to finish our goals and that is ok 🙂 That sounds great! You definitely should pick it up again, I currently use the app Duolingo (it’s free) and it’s helpful for me 🙂 I used to do knitting, and I still have my stuff so maybe I should do that again! That is great though, gonna be so cool when you finish it!! Thank you and I hope you do too lovely ❤ xxx

  3. You’ve been so productive this month! I truly admire your dedication to workout so often! I wanted to learn Python too, but I struggle to find time for it! Congrats for your blog, you’re doing amazing! 😍
May has been so full of work for me, I thought I’d have more time for my hobbies but it turned out I had even less time than in April! Anyway, it should be better now! 😊
