To continue with the Autumn theme today I wanted to talk about getting outside. I think we are all so consumed by technology and social media that we forget to take the time away sometimes. Plus now is the perfect time as the leaves are turning beautiful colours, and the air is cooler and fresh. Why wait when you can start now so put that phone down and get yourself outside!
Let’s talk about some benefits of walking:
I mean the main one is walking is a great form of exercise without it seeming like you are exercising. I absolutely love walking. It really does help to clear my mind, get me out of the house sometimes and you can often discover places you never even knew existed. Plus walking is better for the environment because you are not driving. To make it more fun of course choose a local park to walk around so that you are exploring some great views whilst getting some exercise. Walking a little bit everyday really does help.
2. Better Health
Other benefits of walking include improvements in cardiovascular fitness, boosting muscle endurance, strengthening bones and reducing your risk of developing conditions such as heart disease or diabetes. I mean if that doesn’t sound great just remember that walking is completely free! It doesn’t require using equipment or moving really fast. So if you are not a massive fan of exercising maybe start with walking and see how you go!
If you get more invested in walking you can eventually maybe look into hikes. I have an app which shows me all the trails that are close by, but you can also search for them too! This is great so you can plan a route and be able to look at beginner trails or even the more difficult ones! Plus you can eventually even climb a mountain! This is a great way to not only get exercise but see some pretty damn good views. You can take in what the environment has to offer, and I think whilst we still have a beautiful environment we should make the most of it to explore and appreciate it. However, if you still want to keep it small then just hikes in your local area are still just as good.
Anyone done a hike before? Any recommendations for hikes abroad?
4. Mental Health
Let’s not forget that walking is beneficial for our mental health. Whenever I feel anxious or down going for walks really helps me to just take a moment to reflect on my life and relax. Whilst I am walking I can practice my breathing and just take in my surroundings without thinking about what is going on in my life. Even taking 10 minutes out to just go for a walk can really help my mental health.
In order to increase my walking I always make sure I set myself the challenge to walk 10,000 steps a day, which I have heard quite a few people do. This is just a great way to ensure I am walking even if I don’t have time to run or go to the gym. You can even have walking dates with your partner or friend dates.
I especially love walking in Autumn because I love the colours, I love wrapping up and just love how fresh the air is. Plus I don’t feel like a sweaty mess which sometimes happens during the summer haha. So let’s walk through Autumn together guys and motivate each other towards a better future.
Do you enjoy walking and how has it benefited your life?
