I decided to start this series back in January when I took up dancing again
(you can check out that post here). Therefore this is part 2, which will be reflecting on how things are going and my feelings about dancing again.
First of all I don’t know what I was so scared about! Once I get to the class and start dancing I just forget about everything and I am just in my element. The dance teacher is lovely and we have a group chat, which is nice to interact with everyone but also pick songs for our next routines, and film parts of dances in case anyone misses anything so we can practice.
Little update but I have had to be quite a fast learner within these lessons because I have had to learn two dances very quickly. The group had already learnt one dance when I had started and were halfway through a dance when I joined… great timing Gemma haha! However, it has really pushed me to be able to learn these routines quickly. One dance was hard and I am still going over it and trying to perfect it, because it is a fast song. However, we have now started a completely new dance which is fab for me haha! Finally I am learning from the beginning like everyone else haha.
I like to think I have picked the dancing and the moves back up quite quickly, which I wasn’t sure if I would. I am just so happy. But I also love the fact that everyone in my class are different abilities, so it just made me feel more relaxed when coming into the group.
AND there is such a variety of ages and I completely was not expecting it. Literally one thing that was stopping me was that I thought I would walk into a class of young teenagers haha… but there are some young girls and also middle age women and men and I just love it! I have met people from different age groups and backgrounds and it is just fantastic. I don’t know why that even stopped me in the first place.
One thing I don’t like is that it is only 45 minutes a week! I know you can book personal lessons or find more etc, but whilst I am dancing I could just dance for longer haha! That’s just a personal thing though, I know there is a class after ours so it’s not their fault. I just love dancing so much I could do it for longer haha!
Something else I love is just how I forget everything. No matter how stressed I am or whatever is going on, just being able to go along and dance for 45 minutes of my time just makes me so happy. I love moving my body, I always have. I mean I do it at work all the time as well haha (sorry to my work friends). But, to share a passion with others where we can all just dance together is also great (You can probably tell but I love it).
Also I don’t know if I mentioned what style of dance I am doing (I think I did in my previous post), but with street/hip-hop style dance it comes with doing a lot of weird and fast moves… and moving your body in ways that looks amazing but requires a LOT of practice.
I guess to anyone else out there just don’t let anything stop you from doing something you love. Just go for it and give it your all.
